Challenge

Energy efficiency and reliability had to improve across a distributed 0.4 kV grid serving very different facilities — against unauthorized consumption, cable overheating, weak connections, phase imbalance, and PV generation and EV charging deployed faster than the network could use them well.

Solution

A cloud-based digital twin that runs on smart meter data alone. It continuously calculates currents and voltages at every point in the network and applies anomaly detection and optimization on top of that picture.

Implementation

  • 01Automatic detection of unauthorized consumption, overheating, weak connections and faulty meters, to within 10 m
  • 02Continuous phase connection analysis with phase balancing recommendations
  • 03Power flow optimization for networks with renewables and large loads, through active inverter control
  • 04Real-time monitoring and alerts for early fault detection

Business impact

More than 40% of energy losses removed theft, technical faults and errors in AMI and schematics

Site visits down from 1,000 a year to 20, through early detection of cable failures

Up to 80% of curtailment energy put to use through optimized network balance
