Overview

Our client, a transportation company, faces a lot of incidents involving their vehicles due to road conditions, road bottlenecks, drivers disregarding traffic rules and company policies, drivers bad feeling, changing routes and other reasons.
The client decided to build an analytical platform leveraging vehicle GPS device data and other data sources to increase safety on the road for their vehicles and drivers via providing real-time insights and alerts for violations detections, road condition and routing changes detection as well as enabling historical analytics for routing planning, budget optimizations and other use-cases.

Challenge

There are business plans to significantly grow number of vehicles and services provided.
Incidents negatively impact business growth plans, company reputation and most importantly driver lives.
Data is siloed in different systems and lack of automated intelligence based on historical data for optimization of infrastructure and routing planning.

Approach

Scalable data ingestion via Kappa architecture

As a first delivery phase enabled scalable data ingestion capable to acquire data from Telematics, corporate system with driving rules, weather provider into Event Streaming Store with raw data following principles of Kappa Architecture.

Lambda architecture for real-time & historical analytics

After preparation of data ingestion layer, leveraged Lambda Architecture to organize rea-ltime analytics via Stream Processing as well as historical data analytical layer leveraging Delta Lakehouse approach within two parallel delivery streams.

Flexible event-based data platform architecture

Leveraged event-based loosely coupled architecture to organize highly scalable and extendable platform to meet growing load and easy on-boarding of new analytical use-cases in a future.

High-performance BI tabular models from delta lakehouse
