Data Intelligence System Migration
Modernization of OLAP-based infrastructure on Azure PaaS
Client: Financial and Risk Solutions Provider, USA
8
months to migration and modernization
Zero
disruption for existing clients during cutover
OLAP → Tabular
models converted, on-prem decommissioned

Challenge
The legacy system leaned on SSIS and OLAP cubes — scalability was capped and the path to Azure PaaS was anything but direct. The migration had to be invisible to existing clients, which meant careful planning, OLAP-to-Tabular conversion and a failover ready at every step.
Solution
A step-by-step modernization on Azure PaaS — Azure Analysis Services, SQL Managed Instance, App Services — with PoCs confirming feasibility before each move, tabular models replacing the cubes and the on-prem infrastructure switched off at the end.
Implementation
- 01PoCs validating the OLAP-to-Tabular transition
- 02SSIS packages reused through Azure Data Factory with Integration Runtime
- 03Web services migrated to Azure App Services (.NET Core)
- 04Client-by-client data migration with A/B testing and fallback plans
- 05Full decommissioning of the legacy on-prem system
Business impact
Migration and modernization completed in 8 months
Zero disruption for existing clients during cutover
Lower maintenance on Azure-native services
Better scalability and future readiness on tabular architecture
